Chiefs' Drue Tranquill Explains Heated Exchange with Chris Jones After Herbert Run
Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Drue Tranquill was caught up in the heat of the moment when he got into a heated exchange with teammate Chris Jones late in the fourth quarter of Friday's 27-21 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.
Speaking to The Athletic's Jesse Newell about the situation after the game, Tranquill explained "emotions are just high" in that moment because they were fighting to win.
"Emotions are just high," Tranquill said. "We're all competitive. We all want to win. And so we were just discussing what happened on the play, and emotions were just high."

The incident occurred after Justin Herbert scrambled for a first down on third-and-14 right before the two-minute warning to allow the Chargers to run out the clock.
As the Chiefs defense was standing around on the field coming out of the two-minute warning, Tranquill and Jones were seen on the YouTube telecast having a heated exchange.
Jones didn't directly address the situation with Tranquill after the game, but he did shoulder the blame for the loss by noting he "should have stayed outside" rather than try to jump inside and leave the edge open for Herbert to get around the corner.
"Well, the tackle jumped me," Jones said. "Just should have stayed outside. I blame me. I could have pass rushed better. I could have had a better pass rush, could have contained better. Yeah, I blame myself."
Friday was a frustrating night all around for the Chiefs. They made several fundamental mistakes, not least of which were the 10 penalties they committed. The offense struggled early with three punts in the first quarter, but things did improve after that slow start.
The Chiefs scored on each of their final five possessions, but the defense had issues getting off the field to give Patrick Mahomes a chance to pull off a late comeback.
Los Angeles had two drives in the second half that took more than seven minutes off the clock and ended in touchdowns.
This marks just the second time in eight seasons with Mahomes starting at quarterback that Kansas City has lost its opening game. It also snaps the Chiefs' seven-game winning streak against the Chargers dating back to 2021.
