Sinner versus Alcaraz is the final that everyone wanted to see.
The top two men's players delivered a pair of incredible finals at the French Open and Wimbledon already this season.
Alcaraz triumphed in a five-set epic at Roland Garros. Sinner returned the favor in four sets at Wimbledon.
Sinner is the better hard-court player at the moment. The No. 1 seed has not lost a match at a hard-court major since the fourth round of the 2023 US Open.
Alcaraz might have a slight edge on paper because he hasn't dropped a set in New York yet.
However, it is worth noting that five of Alcaraz's six matches have come against players outside the top 15. Friday's win over Novak Djokovic was his only one over a top-10 seed.
Sinner only has one win over a top-10 player as well, but each of his last four victories occurred against seeded players.
Alcaraz owns a 9-5 head-to-head record against Sinner. The Spaniard is 5-1 against the Italian since the start of 2024.
Even though Alcaraz owns the head-to-head edge, it's hard to ignore just how well Sinner's played on hard courts.
Sinner rarely displayed any faults in Australia and New York, and only two of the last six matches against Alcaraz were played to completion on hard courts.
Alcaraz holds more of an edge on clay and grass, but Sinner is the better hard-court player.
Prediction: Sinner beats Alcaraz in five sets.
