Xavier Worthy Out with Shoulder Injury for Chiefs vs. Chargers After Kelce Collision

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy is out indefinitely after suffering a dislocated shoulder during Friday's season-opening loss against the Los Angeles Chargers with a shoulder injury, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Worthy appeared to suffer the injury after colliding with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce on the opening drive of Friday's game in São Paulo, Brazil.

The collision came on a third-and-6 that ended in an incomplete pass from Patrick Mahomes to Worthy. The Chiefs punted to end the drive.

Marquise "Hollywood" Brown can expect to see an increased target share with Worthy and rookie wideout Jalen Royals both sidelined by injury.

JuJu Smith-Schuster and Tyquan Thornton could also receive more targets in their absence.

Royals, who is suffering from knee tendinitis, did not travel to Brazil with the team after being ruled out on Wednesday.

Selected by the Chiefs in the first round of the 2024 draft, Worthy ranked second only to Kelce for the team lead with 638 receiving yards on 59 catches last season.

With DeAndre Hopkins departing to join the Baltimore Ravens and Rashee Rice set to miss the beginning of the season due to a six-game suspension, Worthy was expected to take on a larger role during his second NFL season.

Injuries and suspensions have been an issue for the Chiefs' wide receiver corps throughout Worthy's tenure with the team.

The Chiefs signed Brown in order to pair him with Rice and Worthy last season, only to see Brown suffer a shoulder injury in his preseason debut. The trio has yet to play a snap together since, per Pete Sweeney of the Kansas City Star.

Kansas City will hope to receive positive injury news regarding both Worthy and Royals before the 2025 season continues next Sunday with a Super Bowl LIX rematch against the Philadelphia Eagles.
