Micah Parsons Questionable for Packers' NFL Opener vs. Lions with Back Injury

Andrew PetersSep 5, 2025

Ahead of their Week 1 matchup against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, the Green Bay Packers have listed star pass rusher Micah Parsons as questionable, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Parsons, who was traded to the Packers from the Dallas Cowboys last week, has been dealing with a back injury.

Parsons didn't participate in the Cowboys' training camp or preseason because of back tightness, he told reportersSchefter reported Monday that Parsons has an "L4/L5 facet joint sprain in his back" and is considering taking an epidural injection ahead of Sunday's game.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Thursday that Parsons is expected to play against the Lions, noting that he has been limited in the Packers' practices.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Parsons said he was ramping up to play but the decision would ultimately come down to Green Bay's coaching staff.

"It's a process of getting ready for football, being out for six months," Parsons said Thursday. "Obviously going through tightness, to soreness.

"But I just got plenty of faith in this great training staff, and the coaches. They're slowly getting me into plays, and getting me things that I need if we decide to give me the green light. It's completely up to the coaches, though."

Packers head coach Matt LeFleur gave a similar response about Parsons' chances of playing.

"We'll see. He's doing everything in his power," LeFleur told reporters on Wednesday. "Got to get through a couple practices to see how he responds, but certainly hopeful."

Having Parsons, who logged 12 sacks in 13 games last year, on the field against an NFC North foe like the Lions would huge for the Packers, but ensuring he's fully healthy is the team's main concern after signing him to a four-year, $188 million deal.
