Zyon McCollum, Bucs Agree to 3-Year, $48M Contract Extension Ahead of 2025 NFL Week 1

Paul KasabianSep 5, 2025

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and cornerback Zyon McCollum have agreed on a three-year, $48 million extension ($35.4 million guaranteed), keeping him under contract with the team through 2028, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The 26-year-old McCollum, a fifth-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft, was entering the final season of his rookie deal prior to the extension.

McCollum became a full-time starter last year, appearing in all 17 games (plus the team's NFC Wild Card game against the Washington Commanders).

During the regular season, McCollum amassed 82 tackles (55 solo), 17 pass breakups and two interceptions. His 17 pass breakups ranked third in the NFL, per Pro Football Reference.

Needless to say, this looks like a great deal for the Bucs to extend a young player on the rise, and fans and analysts approved the move.

The McCollum news dropped three days after the Bucs signed right tackle Luke Goedeke, who was an impending 2026 free agent, to a four-year, $90 million extension ($50 million guaranteed).

However, the team isn't expected to reach a deal with another member of the 2022 draft class, tight end Cade Otton, per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Ultimately, the McCollum signing is a great move for the four-time defending NFC South champions as they look toward the beginning of the regular season on Sunday at the Atlanta Falcons.
