Cowboys' CeeDee Lamb Owns 'Terrible' Drops vs. Eagles, 'I Need to Catch the Damn Ball'
CeeDee Lamb blamed himself for the Dallas Cowboys' 24-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2025 NFL season opener on Thursday night.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Lamb lamented his "terrible" drops in the loss and how he needs to "catch the damn ball" to give his team a chance to win.
"That ain't got nothing to do with what's going on right now," Lamb said when asked if his lack of preseason reps impacted his readiness for this game. "I need to catch the damn ball."
gest one came on fourth-and-3 with from the Cowboys' 45-yard line with two minues remaining.
Dak Prescott's pass was perfectly placed after Lamb got behind Eagles cornerback Cooper DeJean, but the Cowboys star wide receiver couldn't corral the ball for what would have been a first down deep in Eagles territory.
It was a difficult play, as Lamb had to dive to get in position to catch the ball. He also had a bad drop in the second quarter when the Cowboys were driving and looking to score a touchdown on their third consecutive possession to start the game.
Instead, Lamb's drop contributed to the Cowboys settling for a field goal that put them up 17-14. They would go on to lose by four points.
Lamb finished with a game-high 110 receiving yards on seven receptions, but the drops are going to stand out significantly more because of how the game turned out.
There's no reason to panic because Lamb has been one of the best receivers in the NFL over the past four years. It was just a bad night on a high-profile stage in a game the Cowboys had a chance to win.
Unfortunately, the small margins in the NFL mean that Lamb will receive his share of criticism for the next week until the Cowboys play again. He can redeem himself against the New York Giants on Sept. 14 at AT&T Stadium.
