CeeDee Lamb's Drops Called out by NFL Fans as Dak Prescott, Cowboys Lose to Eagles
CeeDee Lamb's drops took center stage as the Dallas Cowboys fell to the Philadelphia Eagles in Thursday night's season opener in Philadelphia, with the Eagles pulling out a 24-20 win to kick off the 2025 NFL season.
After a lengthy weather delay and the early ejection of Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter, the Cowboys fought hard in a dramatic, back-and-forth battle but ultimately fell to Philadelphia in an exciting season opener.

Dak Prescott threw 21-of-34 with 188 yards. Javonte Williams added 15 carries for 54 yards and two touchdowns while CeeDee Lamb finished with 110 yards and George Pickens added 30 yards.
It was the defense that struggled early — just as fans feared after the Cowboys traded star defensive end Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers ahead of the season — although the unit stepped up in the second half.
Coming off their 2025 Super Bowl win, Jalen Hurts and the Eagles looked to be in postseason form. Hurts completed 19 of 23 passes for 152 yards and added two rushing touchdowns, finishing with 62 yards on the ground. Saquon Barkley chipped in with 60 rushing yards and a touchdown.
Lamb's drops throughout the game and in clutch time was the center of attention on social media:
The Cowboys struck first on a one-yard touchdown run by Williams, capping a 3:11 drive as Dallas charged into the end zone. The Eagles responded with a 10-play drive of their own, ending in a four-yard touchdown run by Hurts to tie the game at 7-7 heading into the second quarter.
Williams and Hurts traded scores again to open the second quarter, each finding the end zone to keep pace in a near-flawless offensive start for both teams.
Dallas became the first team held out of the end zone, settling for a 46-yard field goal from Brandon Aubrey with 4:12 left in the half and taking a brief 17-14 lead. The Eagles quickly answered, with Barkley and Hurts leading a swift scoring drive to reclaim the lead, 21-17, with just 51 seconds remaining.
The Cowboys answered with a seven-play drive to set up Aubrey's second field goal — a 53-yarder — trimming the deficit to 21-20 at the half. Remarkably, both teams scored on every possession before the break.
Coming out of the break, Philadelphia maintained its perfect streak, chewing up 6:30 on a methodical drive that ended with a 58-yard field goal by Jake Elliott to take a 24-20 lead.
On the very next possession, Dallas appeared poised to answer — until Miles Sanders fumbled at the Eagles' 10-yard line after a nearly four-minute drive. The ball was recovered by Quinyon Mitchell, marking the game's first turnover. That would prove to be the final play before a lengthy weather delay halted action with 4:44 remaining in the third quarter as the Eagles led 24-20.
The weather delay affected both teams offensively, as neither managed to score following the extended break. A second half filled with punts and defensive stops — a sharp contrast to the shootout-style first half — set the stage for a dramatic finish on the Cowboys' final possession.
With the game on the line on fourth-and-3, Prescott looked to his most trusted target, Lamb, launching a deep throw that hit the receiver in the hands but fell incomplete — another costly drop for the 26-year-old wideout.
The Cowboys will look to pick up their first win of the season next Sunday against the New York Giants at home.
