WNBA Playoff Picture 2025, Official Bracket Scenarios After Lynx vs. Aces

Joe TanseySep 5, 2025

The Las Vegas Aces' 13th consecutive win was huge in terms of their WNBA playoff seeding on Thursday night.

Las Vegas defeated the league-best Minnesota Lynx for the first time this season to remain ahead of the Atlanta Dream and Phoenix Mercury for the No. 2 overall seed.

The Aces, Dream and Mercury left Thursday tied at 27-14. One result in the final few games could significant shift how the WNBA playoff bracket looks.

  1. Minnesota (32-9)
  2. Las Vegas (27-14)
  3. Atlanta (27-14)
  4. Phoenix (27-14)
  5. New York (24-17)
  6. Golden State (23-18)
  7. Seattle (22-20)
  8. Indiana (21-20)
  9. Los Angeles (19-21)

The Aces pulled off a 10-point win over the Lynx behind a 31-point performance from A'ja Wilson.

Thursday's win was huge to keep Las Vegas in the No. 2 overall seed ahead of an easy closing stretch.

Las Vegas plays the already-eliminated Chicago Sky on Sunday and Tuesday before it finish with the Los Angeles Sparks, who by Thursday could be out of the playoff hunt.

Atlanta and Phoenix each play the Sparks before the Aces do, so that could be enough to take Los Angeles out of the hunt for the No. 8 seed.

The Dream and Mercury are expected to pick up at least two wins across their final three regular-season games. Even a 3-0 finish may not improve their seeding if the Aces don't fall in their last three contests.

The Sparks have one likely win left on their schedule against the Dallas Wings on Sunday, but the clashes with Atlanta, Phoenix and Las Vegas could hurt their playoff hunt.

The Fever, who won't have Caitlin Clark back for the rest of the season, own 1.5-game lead on the Sparks with two already-eliminated squads coming up in the next week.

The Golden State Valkyries and New York Liberty are still in a fight for the No. 5 seed. Golden State's win over Dallas on Thursday put it one game behind the Liberty.

The Valkyries play the Lynx twice in the next week, but those games might be more winnable if Minnesota rests any players with the top seed secured.
