Cowboys, Eagles Players Fight After Kickoff, Draw Unnecessary Roughness Flags

Tensions were high during the Dallas Cowboys' season-opening matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night.

Following a kickoff with just under six minutes remaining in the first quarter, players from both teams were involved in a scuffle that contained facemasks getting grabbed and helmets being pulled off.

Cowboys safety Markquese Bell and linebacker Marist Liufau were both flagged for unnecessary roughness.

Earlier in the game, Eagles star defensive tackle Jalen Carter was ejected after appearing to spit on Dak Prescott.

The unnecessary roughness penalty didn't affect Dallas too much, as the team still ended up driving down the field and finding the end zone on the ensuing drive with a one-yard touchdown run by Javonte Williams.

Thursday marked the first time that the NFC East rivals faced each other to start the season since 2000, but the time off didn't impact the intensity between both teams.

The Cowboys and Eagles previously got involved in a physical altercation near the end of Philadelphia's 41-7 win in Week 17 of the 2024 season that led to multiple players getting ejected.

Dallas holds the edge in the all-time matchup between both teams with a 74-58 record, but Philadelphia has won four of the past six meetings between the two squads. This included a sweep last season.

As the Cowboys tried to earn their first win over the Eagles since Dec. 2023, things got chippy.
