The Cowboys kicked off the 2025 season at 8:20 p.m. ET in Philadelphia.

Thursday marked the first time in Prescott's career that he had played a game on his late mother's birthday, per Yahoo Sports' Jori Epstein. He wears No. 4 in honor of the day, Epstein reported.

The Cowboys quarterback was a sophomore at Mississippi State and a first-year college starter when he lost his mother, Epstein previously reported.

The quarterback's habitual touchdown celebration, a kiss directed skyward, is made in honor of her, per Epstein.

He also used the celebration in honor of his mother when accepting his NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year in 2023.

Prescott has previously used his wrist tape to share other messages. In 2021 he wrote "Ask 4 Help" on the tape in a gesture of support toward those suffering from mental illness, per NFL on ESPN.

The quarterback is heading into the first year of the four-year, $240 million extension he signed with the Cowboys last fall.

He is appearing on Thursday in his first game since undergoing season-ending surgery on his hamstring last November.
