Amon-Ra St. Brown Says It's 'Almost All or Nothing' for Lions Entering 2025 NFL Season

Julia StumbaughSep 4, 2025

Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown indicated Thursday that he and his teammates are embracing something close to a Super Bowl or bust mentality ahead of the 2025 season.

"I feel like last year, we wanted to get it done. Last year was the first year where I felt like, okay— we were close the year before, at the NFC Championship, and then last year was like, alright, we're going to get it done this year," St. Brown said Thursday (h/t ESPN's Eric Woodyard). "And we didn't get it done last year.

"This year we're like, okay, it's almost all or nothing. Even though in reality, our nucleus will probably still be here next year, and we'll probably have a pretty good team next year, but there's no saying what can happen. So for us, it's like, we know we've got the guys right now, on this team. We've got everything we need, all the pieces. Let's go out there and try to win the whole thing."

The Lions clinched the first NFC top seed in franchise history last season by closing out a 15-win 2024 campaign with a Week 18 victory over the Minnesota Vikings.

The ensuing first-round bye left the Lions just one playoff win away from a second straight trip to the NFC Championship Game.

Instead, the Lions struggled with turnovers in an upset loss to rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders.

That marked the second straight playoff disappointment for the Lions, which ended the 2023 season by losing to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game.

Detroit coach Dan Campbell said at the time he had told his players the 49ers' victory might have spoiled their "only shot" at a Super Bowl.

"Do I think that? No. Do I believe that? No," Campbell said in January 2024 (h/t NBC Sports' Mike Florio). "However, I know how hard it is to get here. I'm well aware. And it's gonna be twice as hard to get back to this point next year than it was this year."

After Campbell's prediction proved true during the 2024 season, he will look for a different outcome with a new roster and staff this winter.

The Lions are still expected to boast a top offensive corps this fall, with Jared Goff set to distribute targets between St. Brown, Jameson Williams and Sam LaPorta while Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery star in the backfield.

On the other hand, offensive line turnover has led to three new starters in the unit heading into Week 1, and the unit is working with a new offensive coordinator in John Morton following Ben Johnson's departure to coach the Chicago Bears.

The Green Bay Packers will present the first test as to whether this new-look Lions roster is ready to contend for a championship when both teams kick off the 2025 season at Lambeau Field on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.
