Micah Parsons Trade Was Reportedly Pursued by Eagles, Cowboys Had 'No Interest'

Adam WellsSep 4, 2025

If you were wondering where Jerry Jones draws the line when it comes to which teams he will trade a star player to, the answer it seems is the Philadelphia Eagles.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Eagles made a "strong play" for Micah Parsons during the offseason, but the Cowboys had "no interest" in trading the superstar pass-rusher to a division rival.

The Eagles' interest in Parsons is not a surprise for a couple of reasons. For starters, if the opportunity to acquire a 26-year-old at a premium position becomes available, every team should at least check in to see if they can make it happen.

Secondly, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman is one of the most aggressive front-office executives in the NFL. He's particularly adept at striking when a star player becomes available, like signing Saquon Barkley as a free agent last year or trading for A.J. Brown during the 2022 draft.

This turned out to be one instance when Roseman couldn't work his magic. The Cowboys instead traded Parsons to the Green Bay Packers, who also signed the four-time Pro Bowler to a four-year, $188 million extension.

Nothing that Jerry Jones has said about the rationale for trading Parsons to the Packers makes much sense. His go-to reasoning is the Cowboys will offset his absence with the two first-round draft picks they received back in the deal and the cap flexibility of not having another expensive contract on the books.

The Packers were already regarded as a good team before adding Parsons. Their first-round picks in the last two years were at No. 25 (2024) and No. 23 (2025) overall. Assuming the 23rd pick is the floor for Green Bay over the next two years, it's going to be hard for the Cowboys to find a blue-chip player at that spot.

Having additional draft capital does allow Dallas to potentially package picks together and move up, so maybe things will work out the way Jones is banking on.

Another issue is the Packers play in the same conference as the Cowboys. They won't necessarily play against each other every year, but Dallas has put itself in a position where it might have to go against Parsons in a potential playoff matchup to get to the Super Bowl at some point in the future.

Adding more insult to the situation is the Cowboys will host Parsons and the Packers in the 2025 regular season. They will meet in Week 4 on Sunday Night Football at AT&T Stadium.

Even though the Eagles probably couldn't have done anything to persuade the Cowboys to trade them Parsons, it doesn't justify the move that Dallas ultimately made by sending him to another in-conference rival.
