Anthony Rizzo's Wedding Ring Rescued From Bottom of Lake Michigan by Diver

Scott PolacekSep 3, 2025

Anthony Rizzo will forever be a Windy City hero for being a key part of the 2016 Chicago Cubs team that snapped the franchise's World Series drought, but he has a hero of his own in the city who helped rescue his wedding ring.

On Tuesday, Mack Liederman of Block Club Chicago reported on scuba-diver-for-hire Yohei Yamada and revealed Rizzo's wedding ring is one of the many lost valuables he has found for people at the bottom of Lake Michigan.

"Rizzo had lost weight and washed his hands in his boat. He shook them dry, and the ring flew off," Yamada said. "Somebody gave him my number."

Yamada said he finds more than 500 valuables each summer, including cellphones, bikes and jewelry. He even found a $30,000 Rolex watch for someone who had lost it. He said he receives "non-stop" calls, given his reputation.

The wedding ring isn't the only one Rizzo has, as he was one of the faces of the Cubs when they won the World Series in 2016. It was the team's first championship since the 1908 campaign and forever cemented the legacies in the city for the main players on the roster.

That certainly includes Rizzo, who was an All-Star, Gold Glover and Silver Slugger that season while slashing .292/.385/.544 with 32 home runs and 109 RBI. He played for the Cubs from 2012 until he was traded in 2021 and became a fan favorite along the way.

And he has a ring for each hand with his World Series one as well as his wedding one, thanks to Yamada.
