Dolphins' Mike McDaniel Trolls Fantasy Football Managers Talking Ollie Gordon II Usage

Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel doesn't seem interesting in helping fantasy football managers by expanding on how many carries rookie running back Ollie Gordon II can expect to get while Jaylen Wright is sidelined.

"This smells like a fantasy football question," McDaniel said when asked about Gordon during Wednesday's press conference.

McDaniel continued, "I apologize to anybody out there that I'm not helping their team, but Ollie Gordon's a rookie. He's doing a great job, and who knows how much he'll get used."

"I know he'll have zero plays or all the plays, zero yards or all the yards. Or somewhere in between."

Gordon, selected by the Dolphins out of Oklahoma State in the sixth round of the 2025 draft, was officially listed as behind De'Von Achane and Wright on the unofficial depth chart released by Miami ahead of Week 1.

In practice, however, Gordon is set to open his rookie campaign as the Dolphins' RB2. Wright, who struggled this preseason, recently underwent surgery on a leg injury that is expected to sideline him for the beginning of the season.

Achane has also missed time during the preseason with a calf injury, although he returned to practice Monday and McDaniel told reporters he expected the running back to be available for Week 1.

McDaniel praised Gordon's "very intentional job at bridging the gap" from college to the NFL after the rookie recorded 26 carries for 126 yards and a touchdown this preseason.

If Gordon can continue to build on that progress early in the 2025 campaign, he could potentially secure a larger role on the team even after Wright is scheduled to return.

Fantasy managers will have to wait until the Dolphins kick off the 2025 season on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts, however, to learn exactly how much trust Miami has in its rookie running back to split the workload with Achane.
