Aaron Rodgers, Davante Adams Relationship Reportedly 'Frustrated' Jets in 2024
The New York Jets were reportedly "frustrated" by Aaron Rodgers' focus on targeting his friend and former Green Bay Packers teammate Davante Adams during the 2024 season, ESPN's Rich Cimini reported Wednesday.
Cimini reported that last season "Rodgers and Adams were heard talking between plays, with Rodgers soliciting input from Adams on what routes he wanted to run."
One team source told Cimini, "That frustrated people at times."
Rodgers' apparent decision to favor Adams impacted Garrett Wilson, who had led the Jets with 67 targets through the first six games of the season, per Pro Football Reference.
Adams, who said he was encouraged by Rodgers to come to New York, joined the Jets after he was traded by the Raiders ahead of Week 7.
At that point, Wilson saw his target share decline. Adams received 114 targets through the final 11 games of the season, while Wilson received 87 over the span, per Pro Football Reference.
Wilson expressed frustration about his target share in the latter half of the 2024 season, and The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt reported in December that there had been internal questions within the Jets organization as to whether Wilson would request a trade.
This season, Wilson is the wide receiver who boasts a history with the Jets' starter.
Wilson, who played with Justin Fields for two seasons at Ohio State, recently told Cimini he credits his relationship with the quarterback for "where I'm at now."
Fields and Wilson will look to show off their own connection when the Jets open the 2025 season on Sunday against Rodgers and the visiting Pittsburgh Steelers.
