Taylor Townsend Calls It an 'Honor to Share the Court' with Venus Williams at US Open
Taylor Townsend showed respect to Venus Williams after her 6-1, 6-2 victory over Williams in the 2025 US Open women's doubles quarterfinals on Tuesday.
"Growing up watching Venus and [her sister] Serena, for me and my sister, it was an inspiration," Townsend said after the match, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN). "It was an honor to share the court today."
Townsend and Kateřina Siniaková defeated Williams and Leylah Fernandez in straight sets, continuing their dominance after winning Wimbledon in 2024 as well as the 2025 Australian Open.
Williams was making her first Grand Slam appearance since the 2023 US Open.
While the 45-year-old and her younger sister, Serena, have both put together exceptional singles careers, they were also stellar as a duo.
The Williams sisters amassed 14 Grand Slam women's doubles titles, which includes a perfect 14-0 record in Grand Slam doubles finals.
As for Townsend and Siniaková, they advanced to face Veronika Kudermetova and Elise Mertens in the semifinal round.
