Mike Trout was scratched from the Los Angeles Angels' lineup for a matchup with the Kansas City Royals due to a skin infection, the team announced Tuesday.

He was replaced in the lineup by Chris Taylor.

Trout has appeared in 108 of Los Angeles' 137 games this season, missing time earlier in the year with knee issues.

The 11-time All-Star has struggled with availability in recent years, recording at least 100 games played in just one of the prior four seasons.

torn meniscus in Trout's left knee caused him to make only 29 appearances last season. He was on track to play in July 2024 before an MRI that revealed a second tear above the first one, subsequently undergoing season-ending surgery.

Trout also suited up in just 36 games during his 2021 campaign due to a right calf strain.

He was initially set to start at designated hitter against Kansas City on Tuesday, but Jo Adell moved into the position while Taylor took over for Adell in right field.

While Trout has been relatively healthy in 2025, his production at the plate hasn't met expectations. He's slashing just .231/.361/.425 with 20 home runs and 54 RBI, while his .786 OPS is his lowest since he made his MLB debut in 2011.

Trout's 31.1 strikeout percentage this season is also a career-worst mark.

The Angels have similarly struggled in 2025, sitting 8.5 games back from the final American League wild card spot with a 64-73 record.
