Lions' Dan Campbell Praises 'Awesome' Lambeau Field Ahead of Week 1 Game vs. Packers

Scott PolacekSep 2, 2025

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell won't be intimidated by Lambeau Field when his team takes the field for the season opener against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

But he will be impressed by it.

"Love Lambeau, it's awesome," he told reporters Tuesday. "It's one of those places, on the eighth day, the Good Lord made Lambeau. … It's got that deep history to it. It's the grass, it's the elements, it's just the mystique. If you love football, you love going to play there."

Lambeau Field is one of the most iconic venues in all of professional sports, so his admiration comes as no surprise.

It also surely doesn't hurt his opinion about the home of the Packers that Detroit has been so successful during his tenure. The Lions enter Sunday's matchup against Green Bay with a three-game winning streak at Lambeau Field, which is a major reason they are also coming off back-to-back NFC North titles.

All eyes will also be on the Lions to start the 2025 campaign because of some of the uncertainty surrounding the team.

After all, they are replacing both coordinators after offensive coordinator Ben Johnson left to become the head coach of the Chicago Bears and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn left to become the head coach of the New York Jets.

John Morton is the new OC, while Kelvin Sheppard is the new DC. It remains to be seen if they can continue the recent success Johnson and Glenn helped establish, but they will immediately be put to the test against a fellow NFC North title contender in Green Bay.

And that test will come at one of football's hallowed grounds.
