Offseason Trade Block Big Board After NFL Draft 🏈
Inter Miami star Lionel Messi was searching for his 47th title for club and country in Sunday's final, but he and his squad couldn't find enough offense to get past the Sounders.
Seattle's Osaze De Rosario got his team on the board early with a goal in the 26th minute, but Inter Miami hung around for most of the game. Álex Roldán's penalty kick then put the Sounders up 2-0 in the 84th minute before Paul Rothrock made it 3-0 in the 89th minute, sealing the deal for Seattle.
"Unfortunately that is going to take some of the attention away from a great performance by the Seattle Sounders," Seattle coach Brian Schmetzer said after the game, per ESPN. "Their players were frustrated and that led to some things happening on the field that shouldn't happen on the field.
"I'm going to shut that down, becuase that shouldn't be the story. The story of the game is not what happened after the game. I had a quiet moment with Messi on the field [after the game] and we talked and we tried to push it aside. That's the story."
Suárez has been involved in a handful of controversial moments throughout his career, including his infamous biting of Giorgio Chiellini during the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
