US Open Tennis 2025 Results, Winners, Losers and Highlights from Sunday's Bracket

Joe TanseyAug 31, 2025

Carlos Alcaraz clinched a spot in the 2025 US Open quarterfinals with another straight-set win on Sunday.

The men's No. 2 seed took care of unseeded Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech in three sets to book his place in the final eight.

Alcaraz is still expected to put himself in the final alongside top seed Jannik Sinner.

The women's singles bracket could get a No. 1-versus-No. 2 final as well, but No. 4 seed Jessica Pegula is one of the remaining Americans who will try to change that projection.

Pegula, the women's singles runner-up in 2024, made easy work of her round of 16 match to reach the quarterfinals.

Pegula is one way away from facing Aryna Sabalenka, the No. 1 seed and reigning champion, in the semifinals.

Pegula and Sabalenka have to get past a pair of unseeded former major champions first in the quarterfinal round.

Men's Singles

1 of 2

No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz def. Arthur Rinderknech, 7-6 (3), 6-3, 6-4

No. 4 Taylor Fritz def. No. 21 Tomas Machac, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3

No. 7 Novak Djokovic def. Jan-Lennard Struff, 6-3, 6-3, 6-2

No. 20 Jiri Lehecka def. Adrian Mannarino, 7-6 (4), 6-4, 2-6, 6-2

Alcaraz put together another solid performance inside Arthur Ashe Stadium to book his place in the final eight.

The second-seeded Spaniard only faced one truly tough set against Arthur Rinderknech, who took him to a first-set tiebreak.

Alcaraz had more control on the match as it went along and he finished off the match in three sets.

Alcaraz will play No. 20 seed Jiri Lehecka in the quarterfinals. Lehecka defeated Adrian Mannarino in four sets.

Taylor Fritz and Novak Djokovic had no trouble advancing to the quarterfinals on Sunday night.

Fritz, the lone American left in the men's singles field, cruised past Tomas Machac.

Djokovic took out Jan-Lennard Struff in three impressive sets. The No. 7 seed earned his second three-set win of the tournament and first since the opening round.

Djokovic and Fritz face each other in the quarterfinals. The winner of that match will likely face Alcaraz in the semifinals.

Women's Singles

2 of 2

No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka def. Cristina Bucsa, 6-1, 6-4

No. 4 Jessica Pegula def. Ann Li, 6-1, 6-2

Marketa Vondrousova def. No. 9 Elena Rybakina, 6-4, 5-7, 6-2

Barbora Krejcikova def. Taylor Townsend, 1-6, 7-6 (13), 6-3

Jessica Pegula breezed into the women's quarterfinals with 54-minute, straight-set win over fellow American Ann Li.

Pegula has now advanced to the US Open quarterfinals in three of the last four years. She was the runner-up to Aryna Sabalenka in 2024.

The No. 4 seed will play two-time major winner Barbora Krejcikova in the quarterfinals.

Krejcikova needed just over three hours to beat Taylor Townsend in a three-set epic.

Krejcikova saved eight match points in the second set and got the best of Townsend in a 28-point second-set tiebreak. The momentum of the match shifted in Krejcikova's direction after the second-set triumph.

Sabalenka cruised once again to a straight-set win. She needed an hour and 13 minutes to eliminate Cristina Bucsa.

Sabalenka takes on Marketa Vondrousova in the quarterfinals. Vondrousova, the 2023 Wimbledon winner, knocked out No. 9 seed Elena Rybakina in Sunday's final match.
