Brophy Prep Loses HSFB Opener, Donovan McNabb Jr., Larry Fitzgerald's Son on Roster

A high school football team featuring the sons of NFL legends Donovan McNabb and Larry Fitzgerald sounds like an unstoppable force, but that wasn't the case for Brophy College Prep on Friday night.

The Broncos were picked apart in a 42-6 defeat at the hands of Basha in the season opener for both teams.

Brophy's roster is a who's who of sons of former NFL players. Donovan McNabb Jr., Devin Fitzgerald, Case Vanden Bosch, Bastian Vanden Bosch (twin sons of Kyle Vanden Bosch) and Daylen Sharper (son of Darren Sharper) are playing for the team.

Basha wasn't intimidated at all by that heritage, nor by playing on Brophy's home field. Josh Gaines ran for two scores, including one from 58 yards. Noah Roberts and quarterback Brodie Vehrs also had rushing touchdowns in the win.

The lone score for Brophy came midway through the fourth quarter when Fitzgerald, looking a lot like his father did with the Arizona Cardinals, caught a fade pass from Case Vanden Bosch.

MaxPreps had both teams ranked as two of the top four teams in Arizona high school football. No. 2 Basha is loaded up once again after reaching the Open Division state high school title game last year before losing to Liberty.

Brophy, the No. 4 team in the state, is still trying to catch up to the Bears. This was the fourth consecutive defeat for the Broncos.
