UFC 322 Title Fights Announced with Della Maddalena vs. Makhachev, Shevchenko-Weili
Jack Della Maddalena is now set to face Islam Makhachev with the welterweight championship on the line in the main event of UFC 322 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Meanwhile, women's flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko will fight Zhang Weili with her title up for grabs.
The current UFC 322 lineup also includes Leon Edwards and Carlos Prates in a welterweight bout.
Della Maddalena will be making his first title defense since he became the new welterweight champion by defeating Belal Muhammad during a five-round unanimous decision victory on May 10. He owns a record of 18-2 and hasn't suffered a loss since his first two professional MMA fights in 2016.
After defeating Muhammad, Della Maddalena discussed a potential future clash with Makhachev.
"I think I'll have the size advantage over Islam, but I expect him to be, -- not having to go through the weight cut to lightweight -- I think he'll be a better version of himself, so I expect a tough fight," Della Maddalena said, per ESPN's Sam Bruce. "But, as I said, I believe I've got the skills to get the job done."
Makhachev holds a 27-1 record and was formerly the lightweight champion, defending the title four times before vacating the belt to move up to welterweight in May.
As for Shevchenko, she'll be attempting to continue her impressive run after earning consecutive victories in title fights against Alexa Grasso and Manon Fiorot during her past two appearances.
Weili, a two-time strawweight champion, will vacate her latest title in order to prepare for the bout after she successfully defended it three times since Aug. 2023.
UFC 322 will take place on Nov. 15.
