Cam Ward Named Titans Team Captain for 2025 NFL Season Ahead of Rookie Debut

Andrew PetersAug 27, 2025

Though he has yet to make his NFL debut, Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward has already earned high honors.

The team announced the seven captains for the 2025 season on Wednesday, and Ward, the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL draft, is among the group.

Ward is the first rookie captain for the Titans since Marcus Mariota in 2015. That season, Mariota threw for 2,818 yards, 19 touchdowns and 10 interceptions as Tennessee went 3-13.

Ward already earning captain honors says a lot about the way things have gone in Nashville so far. Even without proving himself on the field, he's managed to earn enough trust from his teammates and coaches to be named one of the team's leaders.

Having already established himself as a great leader in practice and off the field, Ward will look to do the same during the regular season.

Tennessee is coming off of one of its worst seasons in franchise history, going 3-14 and missing the playoffs for a third consecutive year. The Titans are hoping Ward is the quarterback who can turn things around.

He arrived in Nashville after a tremendous college career spent with Incarnate Word, Washington State and Miami. Last season with the Hurricanes, he threw for 4,313 yards and 39 touchdowns on his way to being named a Heisman Trophy finalist.

He didn't see too much action in preseason, but threw for 145 yards on 10-of-19 passing.

The real first test for Ward comes on Sept. 7 when the Titans open up their season on the road against the Denver Broncos.
