US Open Tennis 2025 Results, Winners, Losers and Highlights from Tuesday's Bracket

Joe TanseyAug 26, 2025

Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek were among the seeded players who had no issues with their first-round matches at the 2025 US Open on Tuesday.

Sinner, the top seed in the men's singles draw, needed just one hour and 38 minutes to start his title defense in New York and move on to the second round.

Swiatek used exactly an hour to pick up a straight-set victory and advance into the second round.

Coco Gauff and Amanda Anisimova won in front of the home crowd in different ways. Gauff needed three sets to win under the lights of Arthur Ashe Stadium, while Anisimova had an easy straight-set win earlier in the afternoon.

No. 27 Denis Shapovalov def. Marton Fuscovics, 6-4, 6-4, 6-0

Jannik Sinner faced no difficulties in his first-round victory over Vit Kopriva.

The No. 1 seed and reigning champion only lost four games on the way to his eighth consecutive victory in New York.

Denis Shapovalov and Alexander Bublik, who both reside in Sinner's portion of the draw, also won in straight sets on Tuesday afternoon.

The nature of those victories was important for both players because they need as much energy as possible to challenge Sinner. Shapovalov will likely be Sinner's third-round foe, while Bublik potentially awaits in the fourth round.

No. 19 seed Francisco Cerundolo had the most eventful win of the seeded players in the men's draw. He rallied back from two sets down to defeat Matteo Arnaldi. A win in the second round would give Cerundolo his best finish ever in New York.

Women's Singles

2 of 2
2025 US Open - Day 3

No. 2 Iga Swiatek def. Emiliana Arango, 6-1, 6-2

No. 3 Coco Gauff def. Alja Tomljanovic, 6-4, 6-7 (2), 7-5

No. 8 Amanda Anisimova def. Kimberly Birrell, 6-3, 6-2

No. 13 Ekaterina Alexandrova def. Anastasija Sevastova, 6-4, 6-1

No. 21 Linda Noskova def. Dalma Galfi, 6-4, 7-5

No. 23 Naomi Osaka def. Greet Minnen, 6-3, 6-4

Ashlyn Krueger def. No. 26 Sofia Kenin, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2

No. 27 Marta Kostyuk def. Katie Boulter, 6-4, 6-4

Iga Swiatek and Amanda Anisimova each faced little danger from their respective opponents.

Swiatek lost just three games during her hour-long match. The No. 2 seed is looking to pick up her third quarterfinal appearance in the last four US Opens. She began her career with a trio of early exits in New York.

Anisimova now appears to be one of Swiatek's biggest challengers in the bottom half of the women's singles draw.

The eighth-seeded American cruised in her opening match. She is now the clear favorite to make it out of her portion of the draw and face Swiatek in the quarterfinals.

No. 6 seed Madison Keys and No. 12 seed Elina Svitolina both were upset in the first round. That leaves Anisimova and Coco Gauff, who won in three sets on Tuesday night as the lone single-digit seeds in the bottom half of the draw.

Gauff battled in a three-set victory over Alja Tomljanovic. Gauff finally finished off the match as it crept close to the three-hour mark.

Gauff could be headed for a fourth-round matchup with Naomi Osaka, who looked strong in her opening match on Tuesday night. A Gauff-Osaka showdown has the potential to be one of the best matches in the women's draw if it happens.
