Raiders' Jakobi Meyers Reportedly Requests Trade After Failed Contract Talks

Scott PolacekAug 25, 2025

Jakobi Meyers is entering the final season of his contract with the Las Vegas Raiders, but he reportedly wants to leave the AFC West team before his deal expires.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported Monday that the wide receiver met with the team and requested a trade after the two sides were unable to negotiate a new contract. Yet Rapoport and Pelissero noted the Raiders have "no plans" on moving him despite the request.

This is something of an unexpected twist to the Raiders' build up toward the 2025 season, especially since Meyers was such an important part of the offense during the 2024 campaign.

He led the team's wide receivers in catches (87), targets (129), receiving yards (1,027) and touchdown catches (four). Only tight end Brock Bowers was more productive in the aerial attack on his way to 112 catches for 1,194 yards and five touchdowns.

Meyers put up those numbers as the Raiders rotated through Gardner Minshew II, Aidan O'Connell and Desmond Ridder at quarterback last season. The addition of Geno Smith figured to stabilize the situation under center and perhaps create even more opportunities for Meyers and the other pass-catchers to put up impressive numbers.

That Las Vegas has no interest in trading him, especially this close to the season, comes as no surprise.

He is once again expected to be the team's No. 1 wide receiver and should be able to take advantage of openings when opposing secondaries focus too much attention on Bowers. The Raiders could also use more depth at wide receiver and are reportedly one of the teams in the market for an addition:

If Las Vegas is looking for more help at the wide receiver position, it wouldn't make much sense to trade away its top option.

This could just be a negotiating tactic from Meyers' side, especially after he was unable to come to terms on a new deal with the team. Perhaps talks will eventually resume, but there isn't much time until the start of the season.

Las Vegas kicks off its 2025 campaign on Sept. 7 against the New England Patriots.
