Skyy Moore Says 'I Found Myself in My Head A Lot' with Chiefs Before 49ers Trade

The Kansas City Chiefs traded wideout Skyy Moore and a 2027 seventh-round pick to the San Francisco 49ers this offseason for a 2027 sixth-rounder, putting an end to his disappointing tenure with the reigning AFC champions.

And Moore was happy for the change in scenery.

"Yeah, I feel like I definitely needed a fresh start," he told reporters Saturday. after San Francisco's 30-23 preseason win over the Los Angeles Chargers. "I found myself in my head a lot over in Kansas City and that's never good. I feel like today, let it loose and just go out and play because I don't know anything anyway. So, I got to just play ball."

Moore had three catches on six targets for 19 yards in the contest.

His three years in Kansas City didn't go as planned after he was a second-round pick in 2022. He managed just 43 catches for 494 yards and a touchdown during his three seasons, failing to establish himself as a key playmaker. And with the Chiefs boasting solid receiving depth this year in Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, Hollywood Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster, there wasn't much of a role available for Moore.

The 49ers, meanwhile, have been beset by injures at receiver, giving him the opportunity to prove he's capable of handling a larger workload. It remains to be seen if he'll have much of a role once the Niners get healthy at the position, but he's been given something of a second chance in San Francisco.

"It's a fresh start, new city, new team," he said. "I feel like I get to learn again, put the fun back in the game, not that I lost it, but just another adventure I would say. The guys, what I've seen so far, they accepted me and all the veteran guys and all the coaches, helped me make that transition as smooth as possible."
