The New Orleans Saints are releasing veteran running back Cam Akers, but you probably knew that already if you follow him on social media.
Akers posted Monday that the league is "a crazy place."

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported shortly after that the Saints have let him go prior to Tuesday's roster deadline.
This is at least better than the alternative. In the social media age, it's not unprecedented for an athlete to learn about a transaction through a breaking news report before their team alerts them.
New Orleans appears to have told Akers of his release before it leaked out.
The decision isn't a shock based on the 26-year-old's preseason usage. He carried the ball eight times for 16 yards in three games.
Kendre Miller is the clear backup to Alvin Kamara in the backfield, and sixth-round draft pick Devin Neal is likely to get some touches as a rookie.
This nonetheless served as a reality check for Akers, who came back from an Achilles tear to run for 444 yards and two touchdowns with the Houston Texans and Minnesota Vikings in 2024. He received two fifth-place votes for Comeback Player of the Year.
Unless you're one of the best at your position, job security can be a tenuous thing in the NFL.
