Tyler Shough vs. Spencer Rattler QB1 Battle to be Decided This Week, Says Saints' HC
New Orleans Saints head coach Kellen Moore believes he'll settle on a starting quarterback within "the next few days."
"I think it's important that we collaborate and talk through this thing. That's an important aspect of this thing," Moore said, per ESPN's Katherine Terrell. "Everyone's got their different perspectives and different exposures and so that would be really, really important. Ultimately, I know I have to make a decision and it's a challenging one because these guys have put everything into this. They've been very, very close."
Neither Spencer Rattler nor Tyler Shough separated himself from the other. Rattler completed 69.8 percent of his passes for 295 yards, one touchdown and one interception, while Shough had 333 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception with a 66.7 percent completion rate.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Rattler started Saturday's 28-19 loss to the Denver Broncos, but Moore's comments underline how that may not mean much. No decision has been made, and Shough wound up getting more reps in New Orleans' preseason finale.
Regardless of who emerges as the Week 1 starter, some in the Big Easy might believe the Saints' quarterback situation will remain fluid heading into 2026.
Rattler lost all six of his starts and threw for 1,317 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions in 2024. Shough, meanwhile, is one year older after spending seven seasons in college, so he may not have the same kind of upside as a typical rookie.
The optimal outcome for the Saints is that Rattler or Shough emerges to become a solid starting solution beyond 2025. The franchise has had a revolving door under center ever since Drew Brees retired in 2021.
But it won't be too surprising if the front office is once again revisiting the QB position again next spring.
