Shedeur Sanders' Full Preseason Stats After Browns' Finale amid Battle vs. Gabriel

Joseph ZuckerAug 23, 2025

Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders wrapped up his 2025 NFL preseason Saturday against the Los Angeles Rams.

The fifth-round pick entered the game in the third quarter and finished 3-of-6 for 14 yards. He exited with a little over two minutes remaining as the Browns trailed 17-16.

Sanders was sacked five times, a couple of which resulted from him trying to extend plays instead of throwing the ball away.

His performance was a step backward from when he had 138 passing yards and two touchdowns in a 30-10 win over the Carolina Panthers. This wasn't the kind of final audition he will have wanted.

Saturday's performance bring his full preseason stat line to 17-29 passing for 152 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski has until 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday to make his final roster decisions.

The biggest question with Sanders is whether he makes the active roster. Teams typically carry two quarterbacks on their game day squad, but Cleveland may choose to cut none of its four best signal-callers.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported Saturday the Browns aren't expected to trade either of their rookie quarterbacks.

Assuming Sanders is one of the 53 active players for Week 1, where he sits in the depth chart will be the next topic of discussion.

Stefanski has already named Joe Flacco his starter for the opener against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 7. There might be similarly little drama when the rest of the quarterback room is sorted out.

Dillon Gabriel was ahead of Sanders all offseason, and it's potentially telling he was the first QB off the bench when Stefanski pulled Flacco. Appointing Sanders as the backup would be quite a shift in his thinking.

At the end of the day, the order of the Browns' quarterbacks may not matter too much. It's easy to foresee a situation in which Flacco, Gabriel, Sanders and Kenny Pickett all start at some point.

Should that happen for Sanders, he'll need to make the most of his opportunity.
