Deion Sanders Reacts to Dick Vitale Hoping Shedeur Makes Teams 'Eat Their Hearts Out'

Mike ChiariAug 23, 2025

Pro Football Hall of Fame cornerback and University of Colorado head football coach Deion Sanders responded Saturday to legendary college basketball commentator Dick Vitale showing support for his son, Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

In a post on X, Vitale wrote that he hopes Shedeur makes the teams who passed on him in the 2025 NFL draft "eat their hearts out" for doing so, prompting Coach Prime to show love to Dickie V:

Vitale previously made a post about Shedeur on Thursday, writing, "I hope he proves that he should have NEVER been a fifth-round pick."

After winning Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year honors last season at Colorado and throwing for 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, Shedeur was widely expected to be an early-round pick with many projections putting him in the first round.

However, Sanders experienced a shocking fall during the draft, dropping all the way to the fifth round before the Browns took him 144th overall.

With Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel out due to injuries and head coach Kevin Stefanski opting not to play starter Joe Flacco in the Browns' preseason opener a couple of weeks ago, Sanders got the start, and he was highly impressive.

In a 30-10 road win over the Carolina Panthers, Sanders went 14-of-23 for 138 yards, a pair of touchdown passes to Kaden Davis and no interceptions.

An oblique injury caused Sanders to miss the Browns' second preseason game, but he has recovered, and Stefanski told reporters he expects Sanders to play at some point during Cleveland's preseason finale against the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday.

Sanders has seemingly already done enough to make the team, but with another strong performance against the Rams, he could potentially have a shot to secure the main backup role, which would make him the first man up should Stefanski make a quarterback change during the season.
