Mike Vrabel Posts Meme from 'The Departed' After Remark on 'Rats' Inside Patriots

Scott PolacekAug 22, 2025

Mike Vrabel was famously tight-lipped about injuries when he was the head coach of the Tennessee Titans, but he might be taking things to another level with the New England Patriots.

Vrabel first made it clear he was not happy when he called out the "rats" within the organization after it was reported wide receiver Ja'Lynn Polk will miss the 2025 season because of a shoulder injury:

The head coach then took to social media and posted a meme from The Departed and the scene where actor Jack Nicholson referenced rats:

This comes after NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported Thursday that Polk will be sidelined for the entirety of the upcoming campaign because of a shoulder injury that requires surgery. It surely wasn't what the Patriots were hoping for from the second-year wideout seeing how he was a second-round pick in 2024.

Schultz reported Polk "saw multiple specialists, and surgery was determined to be the best course of action—with the goal of being fully healthy for 2026."

The Washington product was not much of a contributor as a rookie with 12 catches for 87 yards and two touchdowns across 15 games.

As for Vrabel, he is returning to the Patriots as a head coach this season after he played for the franchise from 2001 through 2008. He won three Super Bowls during that tenure and is considered a franchise legend.

He could add to that legacy by turning things around as a head coach after New England finished with a 4-13 record in each of the last two seasons.

But first, he is trying to minimize what he sees as a rat problem within the organization.
