Jerry Jones Reveals 'S--t' He Won't Go For in Micah Parsons, Cowboys Contract Talks

Mike ChiariAug 22, 2025

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones used a unique comparison to explain recent contract negotiations with superstar pass-rusher Micah Parsons on Friday.

On Friday's episode of Get Up (beginning at the 19:05 mark of the video) a snippet of Jones' interview with ESPN's Stephen A. Smith was played, and Jones gave his view on how talks with Parsons have gone:

"In the spirit of not doing the old mother-dad deal ... How many times have you seen the little rascal so clever going there and mama told them, 'Uh-uh, you're not gonna get it.' And goes into daddy who only sees him after 5 in the afternoon, wants to love him and says, 'You can have it, son. You can have that before dinner.' And he goes back in and says, 'Mama, daddy said I could have it.' So, mom-dad has been around since the beginning of time. I'm not gonna go for that s--t here. That's what's happening. I'm not going for it."

Despite that, Jones said Parsons and the Cowboys have had a "very, very strong negotiation."

Parsons, who is set to enter the final year of his contract this season, has been a hold-in since the start of August, attending meetings and walkthroughs, but not participating in practice.

On Aug. 1, Parsons publicly requested a trade in a lengthy post on X, while criticizing the Cowboys' approach to contract negotiations:

Despite Parsons' request, the Cowboys have not budged thus far. In fact, Jones told reporters the trade request was "just a part of negotiation."

This offseason has been a busy one in terms of the NFL's top pass-rushers getting new contracts, as Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns, T.J. Watt of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Maxx Crosby of the Las Vegas Raiders all signed huge extensions.

On Thursday, Jones told Cowboys Hall of Fame wide receiver Michael Irvin (h/t ESPN's Todd Archer) that the organization made Parsons an offer that "would've made him the highest-paid guaranteed player other than a quarterback in the NFL."

Jones also told Irvin that Parsons' agent, David Mulugheta, told the Cowboys to "stick it up our ass" in reference to the contract offer.

However, ESPN's Ryan Clark spoke to Mulugheta, and the agent denied saying anything of the sort:

Regardless of what was truly said, the relationship between Parsons and the Cowboys is clearly fragile right now, which is far from ideal from Dallas' perspective since the start of the regular season is on the horizon.

There is no pass-rusher aged 26 or younger who has been better and more productive than Parsons over the past four seasons.

Since going 12th overall to the Cowboys in the 2021 NFL draft, Parsons has registered 52.5 sacks and earned four Pro Bowl nods, two First Team All-Pro selections and the 2021 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award.

Parsons and Hall of Famer Reggie White are the only players in NFL history with at least 12 sacks in each of their first four seasons.

Despite missing four games due to injury, Parsons led the Cowboys with 12 sacks last season, and no other player on the team had more than 5.5.

That means the Dallas defense could be in huge trouble from a pressure standpoint if Parsons holds out into the regular season or if he succeeds in forcing a trade.

The Cowboys will play in the first game of the 2025 regular season on Sept. 4 when they face the NFC East rival and reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, meaning they may not have Parsons available if they don't find some common ground soon.
