Jordan Love Says 'We'll Be Good' for Packers' Week 1 vs. Lions amid Thumb Injury

Paul KasabianAug 21, 2025

Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love, who underwent surgery to repair a ligament injury in his left thumb on Aug. 12, told broadcaster Kay Adams on the Up & Adams show that he'll be good to play his team's regular season opener against the Detroit Lions.

Love returned to practice on Aug. 18, six days after the surgery. Per ESPN's Rob Demovsky, he took part in all activities aside from 11-on-11 drills.

Love has remained on the field all week and notably took part in joint practices on Wednesday against the Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay's preseason opponent on Saturday. He had a tough time in red zone seven-on-seven drills, although he's still working his way back from injury and notably faced a solid Seahawks defense.

Love suffered the injury after his left thumb accidentally hit the helmet of New York Jets defensive lineman Jay Tufele during an Aug. 9 preseason game.

The former Utah State star is entering his third season as the Packers' starting quarterback. Green Bay has made the playoffs twice with Love leading the way and looks for three postseason appearances in a row this year.

The Packers open the season at home against the defending NFC North champion Lions on Sunday, Sept. 7. Kickoff is set for 4:25 p.m. ET.
