Brodido Beats The Hurt Syndicate, FTR to Win AEW Tag Titles at Forbidden Door 2025

Brodido defeated The Hurt Syndicate and FTR in a three-way elimination tag team match at Forbidden Door on Sunday to win the AEW World Tag Team Championships for the first time.

Masked attackers, later revealed to be Ricochet and Gates of Agony, neutralized Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin midway through the match.

That opened the door for Bandido and Brody King to focus their attention on Dax Harwood, with Bandido's monkey flip splash enough to put FTR away.

Lashley and Benjamin initially won the AEW tag team titles from Private Party back in January, and they proceeded to go on a dominant run that saw them reign as champions for over 200 days entering Forbidden Door.

With The Hurt Syndicate taking down challengers such as The Gunns, The Outrunners, Big Bill and Bryan Keith, The Gates of Agony, Dustin Rhodes and Sammy Guevara, The Patriarchy and JetSpeed, new opponents were needed ahead of Forbidden Door.

To determine the No. 1 contenders, an eight-team tournament was held, involving some of the best tandems AEW has to offer.

On one side of the bracket, FTR beat JetSpeed and the Bang Bang Gang to reach the finals, while Brodido took down The Gates of Agony and then shocked The Young Bucks.

That set up a final between teams on opposite ends of the spectrum, as FTR have been teaming for well over a decade, whereas King and Bandido have only been working together for a couple of months.

Because of that dichotomy, FTR were favored to win the tournament and challenge The Hurt Syndicate at Forbidden Door, but Brodido refused to go down without a fight.

In fact, neither team could finish off the other, resulting in a 30-minute, time-limit draw and the decision to allow both FTR and Brodido to challenge for the titles in a three-way tag team bout.

That put The Hurt Syndicate in an unenviable position since it marked the second consecutive pay-per-view at which they had to defend the titles against multiple teams in the same match.

On this occasion, The Hurt Syndicate were unable to overcome two top-tier opponents, as Brodido prevailed and quickly established themselves as the best tag team in AEW.
