WWE NXT Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from July 15

Erik BeastonJul 15, 2015

Monday night on Raw, Charlotte and Sasha Banks were two of three Divas to make their main-roster debuts. Just two days later, they wowed the NXT audience with another classic women's championship match.

Banks retained, proving why she is the Boss of NXT, but both women earned the respect and adulation of the fans.

Tag teams also took center stage as Buddy Murphy and Wesley Blake returned to the squared circle. Jason Jordan and Chad Gable also debuted their new team, picking up a victory in the night's opening match.

Samoa Joe was in action, mowing down another unfortunate soul but coming no closer to ending his war of attrition with Kevin Owens.

Speaking of Owens, Sami Zayn made his return to the NXT Arena, revealing he will miss the rest of 2015 because of an injury.

What else did he have to say about his status and his hopes for the new year?

Relive Wednesday night's show with this look back at the winners, grades and analysis.

Jason Jordan and Chad Gable vs. Elias Samson and Steve Cutler

1 of 5

After weeks of trying to convince Jason Jordan to pick him to be his tag team partner, Chad Gable finally got his wish Wednesday night, partnering with the former Oklahoma athlete to battle Elias Samson and Steve Cutler.

Gable and Jordan dominated the action, using their amateur wrestling background to fuel their offense.

They picked up the win with a suplex combo.

Result

Jason Jordan and Chad Gable defeated Elias Samson and Steve Cutler.

Analysis

As a showcase for the new tag team of Jordan and Gable, this was fine. The duo is new and intriguing, and this was a way to give fans a taste of what they can expect.

The potential is there, but this will be a case of "believe it when you see it" as they have to be able to demonstrate the chemistry and entertainment value that some of the other duos on the roster do.

Samoa Joe vs. Axel Tischer

2 of 5

Samoa Joe returned to the squared circle Wednesday night, squaring off with Axel Tischer in singles competition.

Tischer tried to jump Joe before the bell, but it was the majority of the offense he would muster in the match, falling prey to the much more dominant competitor.

The Muscle Buster and the Clutch finished the match, giving Joe his latest victory.

Result

Samoa Joe defeated Axel Tischer.

Grade

D

Analysis

Has anyone been more disappointing thus far than Samoa Joe?

What should have been an epic debut in WWE has descended into mediocrity, and now, his feud with Kevin Owens could not be more ice-old than it is.

Joe has been let down considerably by booking to this point—and whoever assigns theme music.

Wins over jobbers in enhancement matches will do nothing to enhance his presence or star. A big win in a show-stealing match is necessary.

Angelo Dawkins and Sawyer Fulton vs. Wesley Blake and Buddy Murphy

3 of 5

The tag team champions made their first appearance in weeks, accompanied by Alexa Bliss.

Dawkins was hot to start the match, delivering a quality dropkick but, unfortunately, that was about all that the babyfaces had in terms of offense.

Murphy and Blake finished off Dawkins with the suplex/Frog Splash combo.

After the match, Bliss signaled for the beatdown to resume.

She finished off the assault with the Sparkle Splash.

Result

Buddy Murphy and Wesley Blake defeated Angelo Dawkins and Sawyer Fulton.

Grade

C-

Analysis

This worked better than the other squash matches on the list because it allowed Murphy, Blake and Bliss to showcase their characters.

Of course, a great deal of the act lies in Bliss' heel mannerisms and attitude, but Blake and Murphy have developed into a really solid tag team.

Their upcoming match with The VaudeVillains should be spectacular.

Sami Zayn Promo

4 of 5

Sami Zayn made his return to NXT but did not deliver the news fans would have hoped for.

Still recuperating from shoulder surgery, Zayn revealed that he will not return to the ring until 2016.

Determined to leave his faithful fans on a positive note, Zayn promised to win the NXT Championship. He finished by warning former friend-turned-enemy Kevin Owens to watch his back because he's coming for him in the new year.

Analysis

While it was hardly above-average, Zayn's promo was the definition of "maximizing one's minutes."

He discussed the injury, made it clear that he was still coming for the NXT Championship and vowed to pay back Kevin Owens for the previous attacks.

It worked and gave fans that much-needed update on one of NXT's elite stars.

Who he works upon when he returns, outside of Owens that is, remains to be seen, especially with a babyface champion in Finn Balor.

2016 is a long way away, though, and the entire complexion of NXT could be different by then.

NXT Women's Championship Match: Charlotte vs. Sasha Banks

5 of 5

The two most celebrated Divas in NXT squared off in the main event of this week's show, battling for the right to call themselves champion.

Banks seized control early and focused her attack on wearing down her bigger opponent. A powerbomb turned things back in Charlotte's favor, though, and the Divas entered the home stretch of their bout.

Late in the match, Charlotte applied the Figure Four, but the action spilled to the outside. The second-generation star refused to break the hold, but she did eventually, and action returned to the ring.

Pinfall attempts ensued, but Banks caught Charlotte in the Bank Statement and forced a tapout to successfully retain her title.

Result

Sasha Banks defeated Charlotte to retain the NXT Women's Championship.

Grade

B+

Analysis

Charlotte and Sasha Banks have that sort of chemistry that exists in all great rivalries. They work so well with each other and, more importantly, they have proved capable of building on spots from previous matches while delivering their latest classic.

This was not up to the level of their previous bouts, but at 13 minutes, it was a match far better than anything else on the show.

In a week when they both made their main-roster debuts, Banks and Charlotte reminded fans why NXT is home to some of the sport's best women's wrestling.
