Skyy Moore Reportedly Traded to 49ers From Chiefs amid Aiyuk, Jennings Injuries

The San Francisco 49ers have acquired wide receiver Skyy Moore from the Kansas City Chiefs and a swap of sixth- and seventh-round picks in 2027, per Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

The move comes as the Niners have been decimated by injuries at receiver, with Brandon Aiyuk recovering from a knee injury, rookie Jordan Watkins dealing with a high ankle sprain and Jacob Cowing just suffering a hamstring issue. Jauan Jennings has also dealt with a calf issue this summer.

Additionally, head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters on Wednesday that Demarcus Robinson received a three-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy, which would take him out of commission for much of September.

NFL reporter Jordan Schultz noted that the Niners were "in the wide receiver market for a minute now, and tried to get John Metchie III from Houston" before he was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles.

How much Moore will aid the Niners is another matter entirely.

The 24-year-old has registered just 43 catches for 494 yards and a touchdown during his three-year career, though he did have a score in Super Bowl LVII. Since being a second-round pick for the Chiefs in the 2022 season, however, he's largely been a non-factor outside of some returning duties.

He was unlikely to change that in Kansas City, with Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, Hollywood Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster above him on the depth chart.

San Francisco, meanwhile, needs bodies at wideout, and Shanahan might hope he can unlock a bit of Moore's potential in a poor-man's-Deebo-Samuel role. More than likely, however, Moore will find himself buried on the depth chart once the Niners get healthier at the position.
