49ers' DeMarcus Robinson Suspended for First 3 Games of 2025 NFL Season
The San Francisco 49ers will be shorthanded at wide receiver to start the 2025 season.
San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan told KNBR that Demarcus Robinson was suspended for the first three games of the upcoming campaign, although he left the door open for an appeal.
"You can always appeal it so we'll hope for the best on that, but (three weeks) is what we're planning for."
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk noted Robinson was in line for an automatic three-game suspension after he pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor DUI charge.
"There is an appeal process," Shanahan told reporters earlier this month. "I'm not sure how it's going. So, I always just plan for the worst and hope for the best. But he's done a good job here. We've really enjoyed him as a guy, knowing he won't be in there, most likely for those first few games. He'll play a lot more in the preseason, but hopefully we can shorten that with an appeal process."
In July, ESPN noted Robinson was sentenced to three years' probation, fined $390 and ordered to complete court-mandated programs after he pleaded no contest to the misdemeanor charge.
San Francisco signed Robinson to a two-year deal this offseason after he suited up for the Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens and Los Angeles Rams during his first nine years in the league. He posted 31 catches for 505 yards and seven touchdowns last year for the Rams.
As for the 49ers, wide receiver depth is a concern at this point.
Deebo Samuel is no longer on the team, Brandon Aiyuk is working his way back from last season's knee injury, Equanimeous St. Brown is out for the year and Jauan Jennings has dealt with a calf injury at times in training camp.
What's more, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported last month Jennings wants a new contract or to be traded.
If Robinson does miss the first three games, the 49ers will not have him available for matchups against the Seattle Seahawks, New Orleans Saints or Arizona Cardinals.
