Jowon Briggs Traded to Jets from Browns for 6th-Round NFL Draft Pick

Timothy RappAug 20, 2025

The Cleveland Browns announced Wednesday that they've traded defensive tackle Jowon Briggs and a 2026 seventh-round pick (originally from Buffalo) for a 2026 sixth-rounder.

Briggs was a seventh-round pick of the Browns in the 2024 NFL draft.

He appeared in six games during his rookie season, posting 13 tackles (one for loss) and a forced fumble. But the Browns have ample depth on the interior of the defensive line, especially after drafting Mason Graham in the first round, so it wasn't shocking to see them add some draft capital by sending Briggs out.

The Browns are absolutely loaded with picks in 2026, giving them a lot of ammunition to either quickly retool the roster or move up the board if desired:

The Jets, meanwhile, were in need of depth inside, and Briggs should have the chance to earn solid playing time in New York.

This seems like a pretty savvy swap for both sides. The Browns weren't going to have a ton of snaps for Briggs and were able to add another sixth-rounder in April's draft. The Jets, meanwhile, addressed a thin position with a player who looks to have solid potential.

It isn't the sort of deal that will be talked about on First Take the next day, but good teams find creative ways to improve on the fringes of the roster. The Jets appeared to have done so on Wednesday.
