Jets, 49ers Reportedly 'Monitoring' NFL Trade Market for WR Help amid Vikings Rumors

Joseph ZuckerAug 20, 2025

The New York Jets and San Francisco 49ers are joining the Minnesota Vikings on the lookout for another wide receiver, according to The Athletic's Dianna Russini.

Russini reported Wednesday the Jets "are among several teams monitoring the trade market," while the Niners are "making calls."

Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reported earlier in the morning that the Vikings "are seriously exploring veteran receivers in the trade market."

Minnesota will be without Jordan Addison for the first three games due to his suspension for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy. Justin Jefferson, meanwhile, is dealing with a hamstring issue.

With both San Francisco and New York, the need for wideout help has been apparent throughout the offseason.

The 49ers traded Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders, and Brandon Aiyuk was limited to seven games in 2024 after suffering a torn ACL and MCL. In general, Aiyuk's long-term future in Northern California is far from assured.

In the case of the Jets, signing Tyler Johnson and Josh Reynolds don't fully replace what they lost when they cut Davante Adams. The six-time Pro Bowler averaged 77.6 yards per game in his 11 appearances with the team.

One problem for New York, San Francisco and Minnesota is that there aren't a ton of available options at such a late juncture of the offseason.

And sure, two-time Pro Bowler Terry McLaurin is locked in a contract dispute with the Washington Commanders, but the absence of a trade to this point speaks for itself. The Commanders don't seem to want to move him, and the combined cost of the trade itself plus a possible extension appears to be turning suitors away.

Teams need to trim their rosters down to 53 players prior to 4 p.m. ET on Aug. 26. That deadline could accelerate trade negotiations as general managers try to recoup something for a player they intend to cut anyway.

The window to make major upgrades might have closed, though.
