Anthony Richardson's Agent Unsure of QB's Colts Future, Calls Trust 'Questionable'

Scott PolacekAug 19, 2025

Anthony Richardson's agent isn't happy the Indianapolis Colts announced Tuesday that Daniel Jones will be their starting quarterback to begin the 2025 season.

"Trust is a big factor and that is, at best, questionable right now," Deiric Jackson said, per ESPN's Stephen Holder. "Anthony came back and made the improvements in the areas he needed to improve. And by all accounts, he had a great camp."

Holder noted that Jackson questioned Richardson's future with the club, though he did not demand a trade.

"We have a lot to discuss," Jackson told Holder about future talks with the Colts.

To say Richardson's time with the Colts has been something of a roller coaster would be an understatement.

They appeared to make him the franchise quarterback of the future when they selected him with the No. 4 pick of the 2023 NFL draft, but injuries limited him to just four games in his rookie campaign.

He then returned to the lineup in his second season only to lose his job for two games to veteran Joe Flacco. Richardson also made headlines when he checked himself out of a game last season because he was tired.

Indianapolis eventually gave him his starting job back when it struggled with Flacco, and he ended up completing 47.7 percent of his passes for 1,814 yards, eight touchdowns and 12 picks while adding 499 yards and six scores on the ground as a runner throughout the campaign.

Richardson's rushing ability adds another layer to the offense, but he has also struggled with throwing accuracy in the early portion of his career.

He weighed in on the decision Tuesday.

"Just gotta respect the decision," Richardson said. "They feel like he's a better fit with the team. Better fit for the outcome of us winning. So you just gotta respect it and keep working. That doesn't undermine any of the work I've been putting in. That doesn't say I haven't improved. I'm proud of the improvement I've made. [Head coach Shane Steichen] has also been proud of that. So you just gotta keep stacking on that, keep getting better."

Frankly, it wouldn't be surprising if Richardson finds himself back in the lineup at some point in 2025.

Jones is just 24-44-1 as a starter throughout his career, and it isn't a stretch to predict the Colts will struggle when he is under center. Perhaps they will then see Richardson as someone who can provide a spark to a team that needs one.

Perhaps that will increase the trust between team and agent.
