Joe Flacco Unsure If He'll Remain Browns QB1 All Season, 'Not Really My Job' to Decide
Despite being named the Cleveland Browns' starting quarterback for Week 1 of the 2025 season, Joe Flacco knows his job isn't completely safe.
While speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Flacco admitted that he's uncertain whether he'll remain Cleveland's starter for the entire year, adding that it's "not really my job" to make that decision.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
The Browns held a four-way quarterback competition this offseason between Flacco, 2022 first-round pick Kenny Pickett and rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. All four of them were added this offseason in the wake of Deshaun Watson's continued recovery from a torn Achilles.
It had long appeared that Flacco was the frontrunner for the starting job, as he received the bulk of the first-team reps throughout training camp. Pickett has been sidelined with a hamstring injury. Sanders impressed in his start in the preseason opener, but he suffered an oblique injury that kept him out of the second game. Gabriel missed the first game with a hamstring injury and failed to impress in his return this past weekend. The Browns also signed veteran backup Tyler Huntley amid all the injuries, but he's unlikely to make the final 53-man roster.
Flacco is in his second stint in Cleveland after previously playing for the team in 2023. He was named the NFL Comeback Player of the Year that season after leading the Browns to a 4-1 finish that helped them earn a playoff berth.
The 40-year-old undoubtedly gives Cleveland its best chance to be successful this year, but any struggles could open the door for one of the rookies to take over at some point this season.
