Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes Says NFL Fans 'Turn on You' in 'The Kingdom' Preview Video

Kansas City Chiefs superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes is aware that sustained success is often followed by people waiting to see you fail.

"People start to turn on you," he said in a snippet from ESPN's six-part docuseries The Kingdom (1:50 mark), which chronicled the team's attempt to win a third straight Super Bowl during the 2024 season. "You kinda become this villain. But for me, it's more just about playing the game the right way.

The Chiefs fell short of the three-peat, of course, as they were blown out in the Super Bowl by the Philadelphia Eagles. But Kansas City continues to hold an ironclad grasp over AFC superiority despite the best efforts of teams like the Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills in recent years.

That has caused a level of fan fatigue outside of Kansas City, alongside the exhausting and pervasive narrative that Kansas City receives the best whistle in the sport. But it all comes with the territory when you've won three titles in the past six seasons and reached the Super Bowl five times in that span.
