Giants' Malik Nabers Reportedly Has 'Minor' Back Injury Amid Practice Absences

Timothy RappAug 17, 2025

New York Giants star wideout Malik Nabers is reportedly dealing with a "minor back problem" that has caused him to miss the past 11 days of practice, as multiple sources told ESPN's Jordan Raanan.

One of those sources described Nabers' back issue as "normal camp tightness."

Nabers also hasn't appeared in either of New York's preseason games, and it's very possible he won't play on Thursday night either against the New England Patriots.

"Not going to get into any injuries," head coach Brian Daboll told reporters last week. "[Nabers is] working hard to get back."

Bringing him back slowly and ensuring he's fully healthy for the 2025 season makes plenty of sense. Nabers is easily New York's most dynamic weapon on offense after registering 109 catches for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns last season.

It was a massive output for a rookie, and this year, he's getting an upgrade at quarterback in Russell Wilson. There's every reason to believe his sophomore campaign will be even more impressive.

"Yeah, Malik has, I mean, he has elite quickness, his ball skills, I mean, his ability to track the ball, some of the things he does when the ball is in the air, late hands. I mean, he really is, you know, a complete elite receiver," veteran cornerback Paulson Adebo told Raanan. "... Young or not, he's doing some things that doesn't matter how many years he's been in the league. I mean, he really is elite with the things that he does and his body control and catching the ball down the field and bursts. I mean, literally there's not one knock to his game—coming out of routes, running every route. So, you really do have to prepare for everything with him."

It's gets more grim for the Giants if he isn't healthy. New York's top playmakers in the passing game behind Nabers are Darius Slayton, Wan'Dale Robinson and Jalin Hyatt at wideout and Theo Johnson at tight end. Not exactly the Greatest Show on Turf.

For now, however, the Giants aren't treating the Nabers' situation as anything too serious.
