Matt Bonner Re-Signs with Spurs: Latest Contract Details, Comments and Analysis

Adam WellsJul 15, 2015

Matt Bonner's stint as a member of the San Antonio Spurs will continue for at least one more season as the two sides agreed to a new contract.

NBA.com announced Bonner's pact with the Spurs, though team policy prohibits terms from being released. Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News reported it is a one-year deal for the veteran minimum.

According to financial figures from RealGM, that will put Bonner's salary for 2015-16 at $525,093. ESPN.com's Marc Stein reported on Tuesday the veteran forward was drawing interest from another Western Conference team:

The 35-year-old Bonner has spent the past nine years in San Antonio, winning NBA titles in 2007 and 2014. He has been used primarily off the bench throughout his career, only starting more than 20 games one time (2008-09).

Bonner has been a valuable three-point specialist, hitting 41.4 percent of his attempts beyond the arc, but he posted the second-worst percentage (36.5) in 72 games last season, per Basketball-Reference.com

Even with declining shooting numbers for Bonner, 36.5 percent from three-point range is nothing to scoff at. It looks a lot better when a player is making the league minimum, so the Spurs are loaded with star power and depth to make another title run next season.
