Akshay Bhatia Wins BMW iX M70 Car with Hole-in-1 in Viral PGA Tour Video
Akshay Bhatia is an outsider to win the FedEx Cup Playoffs, but he'll at least always have something to show from his run this year.
Bhatia aced the 17th hole in the third round of the BMW Championship at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland.
In doing so, the 23-year-old won a BMW iX M70, and the tournament sponsor will award a four-year Evans Scholarship to a young caddie in his honor.
Bhatia went on quite the roller-coaster ride Saturday. In addition to his hole-in-one, he eagled No. 7 and had three birdies, but some of that work was undone thanks to three bogeys.
At even par for the tournament, he's tied for 22nd in the BMW Championship and projected to be 29th in the FedEx Cup standings.
The top 30 qualify for the Tour Championship, so Bhatia's ace could have serious repercussions if one or two shots is basically the difference between him making or missing the cut at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.
Regardless of what happens this week and next, don't expect to see Bhatia behind the wheel of his newest automobile.
"I don't really necessarily need a new car. I'm pretty happy with what I've got," he said. "I think either I'll give it to my caddie or figure something out to where I can donate it to charity or something."
