Braves' Ronald Acuna Jr. Activated off IL, Will Return from Calf Injury vs. Guardians

Atlanta Braves star Ronald Acuña Jr. was activated off the 10-day injured list, the team announced Friday.

Catcher Sandy León was outrighted to Triple-A Gwinnett in a corresponding move.

Acuña will return to face the Cleveland Guardians, as the Braves are set to start a three-game series against Cleveland on Friday. The five-time All-Star hasn't played since July 29 due to a calf strain.

Acuña missed the first 49 games of the 2025 season while recovering from a torn left ACL that he suffered in May 2024. Despite appearing in just 55 games during his 2025 campaign, he's remained productive at the plate when healthy.

The 27-year-old has recorded 14 home runs and 26 RBI to go along with 42 walks, owning a .306 batting average. He's also posted a 1.005 OPS, which would be the second-highest mark of his career over the course of a full season.

The Braves have been hit hard by injuries this year, as their streak of seven consecutive postseason appearances is likely coming to an end. Atlanta sits 11 games back of the final National League wild card spot with a 53-68 record.

It makes sense that the Braves want to be cautious with Acuña's recovery, not looking to risk him potentially aggravating the injury and missing further time with a postseason berth slipping away.

The 2023 NL MVP has only suited up in at least 100 games during two of the past four seasons, while his 2021 campaign was cut short due to a torn right ACL.

Atlanta and Cleveland will face off on Friday at 7:10 p.m. ET.
