Brock Lesnar Is the Last Best Hope to Destroy the Authority in WWE

Tom ClarkJul 16, 2015

Brock Lesnar is on a collision course with the WWE world heavyweight champion when he takes on Seth Rollins at Battleground on July 19. But Rollins is not the only one who could fall on that night, as Lesnar may take The Authority down in the process.

This is a showdown nearly four months in the making. It was at WrestleMania 31 when Rollins cashed in his title shot during Lesnar's championship defense against Roman Reigns, and since that time, the former Shield architect has been on a roll.

He has been on top of the world, wearing the richest prize in the industry. He has enjoyed full support from Triple H and The Authority, and he has been unstoppable as a result. Rollins went from being a major force in The Shield to being the top heel in the company, and all of that came after winning the belt at Mania.

But while Rollins has been ruling the world, Lesnar has been waiting and watching. The Beast has been biding his time and waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike. Now, he can finally get a measure of revenge against Rollins when he faces him at Battleground.

Facing Rollins, however, means facing The Authority as well. And while J&J Security may be out and Kane is apparently now on the shelf, Rollins cannot be counted out just yet.

Lesnar has provoked WWE's ruling class by eliminating the majority of The Authority. This is not just some faction The Beast has mauled; this is Triple H's group, and when any member of the McMahon family is involved, it's a dangerous proposition.

Hunter and The Authority have done everything in their power to keep the strap on Rollins, and there is no reason to believe that would change now. While it's unlikely The Game would physically get in Lesnar's face, he surely has something planned to help Rollins end Battleground with his arm raised in victory.

But it will not stop there. Lesnar's thirst for revenge cannot be quenched without a title win, and Hunter cannot ignore the dismantling of The Authority right under his nose. This is a situation that is becoming more combustible by the moment.

That means an explosion is imminent, and it could be much bigger than anything fans have seen in quite a while.  This is not just a former champion seeking to regain his title. This is a conqueror with a major new conquest on the horizon: the destruction of The Authority.

This August marks two years The Authority has been in power.  The only lapse in time occurred in November 2014, when Sting gave the assist that took The Authority off TV. However, just one month later, Triple H's faction was in charge again.

One month was the only reprieve fans had from the villainous Authority.  John Cena was manipulated into putting them back on top, and Sting was unable to defeat The Game at WrestleMania 31. This was perhaps the greatest one-two punch WWE had to counter The Authority, but it was not enough.

Daniel Bryan's phenomenal rise to stardom, which included beating Hunter at WrestleMania 30, was not enough. Reigns and Dean Ambrose working together and separately has not been enough. No matter how many times The Authority has been challenged, nothing has ever been good enough.

But Lesnar represents perhaps the biggest obstacle The Authority has ever seen. Triple H and Stephanie may have the power to suspend Lesnar, as they did the night after WrestleMania 31, but if that were to happen again, The Beast might take the group down on his way out the door.

When Lesnar gets going, he is uncontrollable.  Paul Heyman himself is not capable of stopping him, and when it reaches that point, anything can happen. Rollins represents The Authority, which means The Authority is in Lesnar's sights as well.

Of all the Superstars who have stepped up to The Authority thus far, no one has been stronger, faster, more feared or more dominant than Lesnar. If his rivalry with Rollins goes south and The Authority helps him beat Lesnar, then its days as WWE's ruling faction are surely numbered.

If Lesnar cannot take them down, then perhaps no one can. He is the biggest threat any talent in the company could possibly face on any level, and that includes Triple H's group. He is a one-man wrecking crew, and if he determines The Authority needs to be demolished, then that is exactly what will happen.

He's practically done it already, and whether or not he takes the gold at Battleground, he could decide to finish the job.
