At first glance, and on the surface, seeing Harrison and Rodgers together at Steelers camp seems like a fairly random pairing of sports figures.
However, as noted by Mavs Film Room, Harrison is close with Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin. He's also made it to Steelers training camp the past couple years.
Mavs head coach Jason Kidd was there last year and spoke about learning from Tomlin, per Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
“As a coach, you always want to get better, and when you talk about the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Tomlin is the best," Kidd said at the time.
Kidd wasn't there this year, but Harrison was and got a chance to speak with Tomlin and now Rodgers, a four-time NFL MVP who made his way to Pittsburgh this offseason after 18 with the Green Bay Packers and two with the New York Jets.
The upcoming seasons are important for both Harrison's Mavs and Rodgers' Steelers. Harrison got a ton of criticism for his trade of five-time All-NBA player Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers last February, but superstar prospect Cooper Flagg is in town after the Mavs stunningly won the NBA lottery. It gave the Harrison era a new lease on life as Dallas looks to compete for titles again after missing the playoffs last year.
As for the Steelers, they've been fighting to make the playoffs for a few seasons, but they haven't necessarily been serious postseason contenders once there. Pittsburgh hopes putting Rodgers at quarterback would be the answer to that problem. If the defense remains stout, that could very well happen, but time will tell soon enough.
