Cowboys' DaRon Bland Eyes Contract Extension Before Start of 2025 NFL Season

Andrew PetersAug 12, 2025

DaRon Bland is entering the final year of his contract, and he's hoping to get a new deal sorted out before the start of the season.

Per Tommy Yarrish of DallasCowboys.com, the cornerback said he and the Cowboys have had "some talks," about an extension and he's eyeing one before the team begins the season on Sept. 4.

"I do, but I'm not here to talk about it really too much," Bland said. "But yeah, hopefully."

Bland, a fifth-round pick in 2022, is set to make $5.3 million in 2025 before entering free agency in 2026.

He's had a strong start to his season, already earning All-Pro honors in 2023 when he logged 69 tackles, 15 passes defended and an NFL-best nine interceptions, five of which he returned for touchdowns.

Bland started last season on the injured reserve and missed the first 10 games of the year. He finished the 2025 campaign with 41 tackles and five passes defended in seven games.

Yarrish noted that the Cowboys haven't yet decided if Bland will play at his typical spot on the outside or shift to the slot cornerback position because of various injuries.

Wherever he ends up, he'll look to prove his worth during a contract year if he doesn't land an extension before the season.
