Aaron Rodgers Suffers Shin Injury During Steelers Practice, Doesn't Miss Any Reps

Andrew PetersAug 12, 2025

Aaron Rodgers suffered an apparent shin injury during practice on Tuesday.

The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback had his leg stepped on, but the injury doesn't seem too serious, as he was back on the field for the next period without missing any reps.

ESPN's Brooke Pryor noted that "he might be moving a step slower than usual" after the injury.

Head coach Mike Tomlin said Rodgers' injury was minor.

“He just got stepped on," Tomlin said, per The Athletic's Mike DeFabo. "It was nothing any nothing of any significance. He finished his work.”

Besides the torn Achilles he suffered in 2023, Rodgers has been mostly durable over the last few seasons and played all 17 games for the New York Jets last year. He's looking to stay on the field as much as possible in 2025, but that is a bit of a challenge at 41 years old.

Rodgers said earlier this summer that he's "pretty sure" he'll retire after the 2025 campaign, so he'll be looking to give it everything he's got in hopes of winning another Super Bowl to add to his already tremendous resume.

After a messy exit from the New York Jets, there were understandably some questions about what the 2025 season would look like for Rodgers, but the veteran reportedly has been all in since arriving in Pittsburgh. NFL Network's Tom Pelissero said in June that Rodgers had "been really good in the building so far."

Rodgers was even willing to play in the Steelers' preseason game last week if he was asked to do so.

"It's an interesting conversation," Rodgers told reporters. "I think Mike (Tomlin) and I have that at some point. I don't think it's in the plan for me to play this week, but whatever Mike wants to do, I'm fully on board."

It appears things are going well for Rodgers in Pittsburgh as the season nears, but an injury could quickly put a damper on the Steelers' spirits. If Rodgers has to miss any time this season, Pittsburgh has Mason Rudolph and rookie Will Howard available to play under center.
